No more stolen sips: Sequia, powered by Navixy, saves the beer and the bottom line

  • Client A, a logistics provider for one of Mexico's largest breweries, struggled with diesel and cargo theft, leading to significant financial losses.
  • With the integration of GPS tracking and fuel sensors, diesel theft was reduced by 50% and curbed cargo theft issues were effectively tackled.
  • The Sequía platform, powered by Navixy, delivered real-time fleet tracking and enhanced security through advanced multi-screen monitoring.

Logistics companies across Latin America, especially those transporting high-demand products like beer, face the growing challenge of theft. In Mexico, Client A, a logistics operator for one of the country’s largest breweries, was hit hard by cargo and diesel theft, threatening their bottom line. In partnership with DRD Electronics, Navixy is delivering a game-changing solution to combat these thefts head-on.

With a focus on providing tailored solutions for enterprise clients, Navixy and its partner DRD Electronics implemented a cutting-edge telematics system built on the Sequía platform. This solution showcases how companies can swiftly create customized, robust systems using Navixy’s APIs, offering security and process optimization to large-scale logistics operations.

Vlad Tsveklinkiy, VP of new ventures business operations, noted:

“The demand for IT solutions that address unique regional challenges is growing fast in Mexico, and Navixy is leading the charge. Our partnership with DRD Electronics is proof that customized solutions can deliver real results, from protecting assets to slashing fuel theft by half.”

The challenge: facing the growing threat of cargo and fuel theft in Mexico

Client A operates 35 tractor-trailers daily, managing logistics for one of Mexico's largest breweries. The business was facing recurring incidents of theft, with trucks hijacked two to three times per month, resulting in substantial cargo losses and escalating costs of up to 180,000 MXN (roughly $10,000) per incident. Thieves would force drivers out, steal the cargo (no doubt to kick off the party), and abandon the trucks.

In addition to cargo theft, diesel was frequently siphoned off, costing the company between $1,000 and $1,200 per truck each month, totaling $35,000 in losses across the fleet monthly.

Earlier attempts to solve these issues with non-local providers failed as they couldn’t integrate the necessary GPS tracking and fuel management features into a cohesive platform because of malfunctioning devices, installation issues, and disjointed tracking and fuel platforms. The lack of a unified system made fleet management inefficient and left the company vulnerable to further losses.

The solution: how Navixy and Sequia helped tackle theft and improve operations

When Client A’s challenges became clear, Navixy’s partner, DRD Electronics, knew they had to step in with something big. Based in the same city, DRD Electronics was in the perfect spot to offer fast, efficient service. Their ability to integrate multiple solutions into a single, streamlined platform made them the ideal partner for the job.

Empowering fleet management: Navixy’s platform for real-time tracking

At the heart of the solution was the Navixy platform, paired with the expertise of DRD Electronics, enabled Client A to gain full control over their fleet. The platform’s real-time tracking capabilities combined with multi-screen monitoring provided fleet managers with a clear, holistic view of their operations. This level of control not only improved fleet security but also significantly enhanced overall operational efficiency.

DRD Electronics’ engineers tapped into Navixy’s powerful APIs to integrate it seamlessly with their custom Sequía platform. Before registering devices on Sequía, all device data was first accessed and verified through Navixy, ensuring everything was in sync and ready to go.

Once the data was obtained, they passed the device data to the Sequía software.

With Navixy, fuel sensor data was easily transmitted to the Sequía platform, providing transport managers with real-time insights into their fuel levels. However, before the data could be displayed, it was vital to properly configure the sensors in Navixy’s device settings.

Whether handled by the client or the provider, setting up the fuel sensor data ensures everything runs smoothly, so transporters can monitor their fuel levels with precision and ease.

This data is then integrated into the Sequía platform, where a single chart displays the levels of each tank as well as the combined total.

Sequía: a custom solution empowered by Navixy’s API

A standout feature of DRD Electronics' solution was their custom-built platform, Sequía. The key to Client A's success was the ability to customize it, built on top of Navixy’s robust APIs.

Client A needed a way to closely track trucks heading to different destinations, especially when drivers were unfamiliar with new routes. In those cases, they needed real-time guidance from the control center. Navixy’s platform typically displays all units on a single screen, but when vehicles are spread across large distances, monitoring them effectively can become a challenge.

To tackle this, DRD Electronics developed a multi-screen solution within the Sequía platform. This feature allowed fleet managers to display up to 12 screens within a single tab, offering the flexibility to track multiple vehicles simultaneously while maintaining a comprehensive view of the entire fleet – giving them the control they needed to keep everything running smoothly.

Additionally, client A’s beer trailers come equipped with two fuel tanks, and fleet managers needed a simple way to track fuel consumption – both for each tank individually and combined. The Navixy platform delivered exactly that, offering clear visibility into each tank’s usage while also showing the total fuel consumption across both tanks.

Although the Navixy platform provided powerful functionality out of the box, Client A had specific presentation format requirements. Thanks to Navixy’s flexible APIs, DRD Electronics seamlessly integrated these custom display features into the Sequía platform, delivering the exact reporting and monitoring tools Client A needed.

These reports don’t just show fuel levels – they also let users assess vehicle performance. With the ability to compare up to four vehicles in a single tab, managers can easily evaluate fuel consumption and overall expenses across different tanks. Switching between graphs based on time or mileage is simple and efficient, allowing fleet managers to extract valuable insights with just a few clicks.

Device Selection: Reliable GPS and Fuel Sensors

After testing several popular brands in the market, DRD Electronics selected the Ruptela FM ECO 4+ and Ruptela Trace 5 devices for GPS tracking. These models stood out for their reliability, ease of configuration and long lifespan making them a perfect fit for Client A’s fleet.

For fuel monitoring, Escort fuel sensors were deployed due to their precision and the recent availability of local support in Mexico, cutting down delivery times and ensuring a swift installation.

By pairing these devices with Navixy’s platform, Client A received a cohesive, all-in-one solution that gave their fleet managers the tools they needed to make smarter, data-driven decisions while effectively reducing both cargo and diesel theft.

The Impact: how real-time tracking saved a client $160 per truck weekly

Since the implementation of the Navixy-powered Sequía platform, Client A has seen:

  • A 50% reduction in diesel theft, saving approximately 3,000 pesos ($160 USD) per truck weekly.
  • Enhanced cargo security, reducing the frequency of hijackings and thefts.
  • Improved incident reporting capabilities, making it easier to work with insurance companies and gather evidence when needed.

The ability to monitor trucks in real time and compare fuel consumption across the fleet has allowed Client A to cut costs and increase operational control. This level of customization and precision would not have been possible without the seamless integration provided by Navixy’s enterprise-grade APIs.

Conclusion: transforming fleet management across Latin America with Navixy and DRD Electronics

In regions like Mexico, where cargo and fuel thefts are a constant threat to logistics operations, the demand for reliable data and advanced monitoring systems has never been higher. By deploying customized solutions like the Sequía platform, built on Navixy’s powerful technology, DRD Electronics has proven that it’s possible to tackle these challenges head-on.

For Client A, this tailored solution has resulted in significant improvements in security, operational efficiency, and cost reduction in fuel theft. Additionally, it can streamline incident reporting, easing the process of collaborating with insurance companies.
