Coban GPS303F/G
Coban GPS303F is a budget tracker which has more capabilities compared to basic modification Coban GPS303B. While junior model has only three wires, Coban GPS303F has more inputs (including analogue) and outputs and can be used in a wider set of fleet tracking applications.
Coban GPS303 series are budget GPS trackers for vehicles. By November 2015 the family include three modifications with postfixes B, F and G in their names:
- Coban GPS303B – the basic model, which has just three wires to connect: two for power and one for ACC status.
- Coban GPS303F – advanced model with multiple inputs and outputs (I/O).
- Coban GPS303G – similar to GPS303F, but also includes remote control for managing the alarm mode, engine cut relay and send emergency alarm.
“F” and “G” modifications
Both “F” and “G” modifications differ from basic model of the series (GPS303B) by having more inputs and outputs that allow connecting various sensors, such as doors opening or fuel level sensor.
The difference between “F” and ”G” modifications is the remote controller. It has four buttons and allows to control alarm mode (ON/OFF), engine cut relay and send emergency signal (SOS).
All models are dust and waterproof, and have no external antennas — it simplifies the installation process.
Location and tracking
All GPS303 models are embedded with GPS chip NewStar 1315 and don’t have support of GLONASS and alternative systems.
There are only two basic tracking mode, which do not provide too much flexibility: by time interval and by distance.
As the back-up, when no satellites signals are available, it uses Cell ID location (also known as LBS-tracking).
Also, the tracker supports turnings. It will update the positions automatically to web server once the vehicle changing driving direction over pre set angle (30 degrees) to form a smooth trajectory consistent with the actual road, this function is only effective in GPRS mode.
Mobile networks
With Quad-band GSM 2G module mobile devices can be operated all over the world.
Emergency button
Both GPS303F/G have one input reserved for SOS button (also included into the package). To send the SOS signal it’s required to hold the button pressed within 3 seconds.
For “G” model it is also duplicated on the wireless remote controller.
Power supply
External power supply might be 12V or 24V, which makes possible to install GPS303 both on cars and vans.
GPS303 also features a built-in rechargeable backup battery. When fully charged it ensures about 3-4 hours of device operation (in normal conditions).
Inputs and outputs
There are following interfaces available:
- Inputs:
- 1 x Discrete input reserved for SOS button (-)
- 1 x Discrete input (+)
- 1 x Discrete input (-)
- 1 x Fuel level sensor – reported in percent
- Outputs:
- 1 x Output reserved for Engine block relay
- 1 x Output reserved for Siren (but also can be used for any other purpose)
- Other:
- Mic
When input state changes device reports about it to the server immediately.
Coban GPS303 firmware does provide the possibility to check the current state of the output. Thus you can only send the command to turn the output ON or OFF, but not able to read the state remotely.
Local and remote management
GPS303 trackers can be fully controlled over GPRS, including configuration of tracking modes and controlling outputs. There is also a wide list of SMS commands in a human-friendly format, on which device always replies back. It supports remote APN settings configuration by SMS.
However, the disadvantage is the output state can’t be read remotely. A user can send two commands with the meaning “Switch ON” or “Switch OFF” for the output control, but he won’t be able to get its current status.
You can also configure GPS303 from a PC, but you will require a special USB-cable, which is not included into a standard package. No special software is needed.
LED Indication
GPS303 has 3 LEDs
- Red LED indicates backup battery charge
- Green LED indicates GSM/GPRS mode
- Blue LED indicates GPS reception
